After welcoming guests to The Williams House for many years, I’ve had countless conversations about our island’s most treasured asset—our absolutely beautiful beaches. There’s something magical about waking up in our comfortable rooms, enjoying a leisurely breakfast on the veranda, and then heading out with one of our complimentary beach umbrellas, chairs, and fluffy towels for a perfect day by the ocean. Each of our island’s beaches offers its own special charm, and I’m delighted to share my personal insights to help you discover the coastal experiences that will make your stay truly memorable.
Fort Clinch State Park: History and Tranquility Combined
Just a short, pleasant drive from The Williams House, Fort Clinch State Park offers one of my favorite peaceful retreats on the island. This northern gem combines fascinating Civil War history with the most pristine, undeveloped coastline you’ll find anywhere. I often recommend this spot to guests seeking a quieter, more contemplative beach experience.
The wide, sandy shores here feel wonderfully remote, backed by beautiful maritime forests and salt marshes that create the most serene atmosphere. Many of our guests love exploring the historic fort first, then settling into their Williams House beach chairs for an afternoon of pure relaxation. During low tide, the shelling is superb, and you’ll often find yourself completely absorbed in searching for sand dollars and unique shells.
American Beach: A Place of Profound Beauty and History
American Beach holds a very special place in our hearts here on Amelia Island. This historically significant stretch of coastline, where African Americans could vacation during segregation, continues to welcome all visitors with its gentle beauty and important cultural heritage. The beach itself is simply lovely—wide, welcoming shores with calm waters perfect for swimming and peaceful walks.
I always encourage our guests to visit the American Beach Museum to learn about this remarkable community’s history before settling in for a relaxing beach day. The relatively uncrowded nature of this beach makes it perfect for spreading out your Williams House towels and truly unwinding with a good book.
Main Beach: The Heart of Our Island Community
Main Beach is wonderfully convenient—just minutes from The Williams House—and serves as our island’s vibrant gathering place. This is where I often direct families staying with us, as it offers every amenity you could need for a perfect beach day, all within easy walking distance of Fernandina Beach’s charming historic district.
The expansive sandy area provides plenty of room for beach games and activities, while the well-maintained facilities ensure your comfort throughout the day. After you’ve enjoyed your time in the sun under one of our umbrellas, you can easily stroll into town for lunch at one of our delightful local restaurants, then return for more beach time. It’s the kind of effortless vacation rhythm that makes staying at The Williams House so wonderfully relaxing.
Amelia Island State Park: Nature’s Own Sanctuary
At the southern end of our island, Amelia Island State Park offers the most pristine, undeveloped beach experience you’ll find. This is where I send our nature-loving guests who want to experience Florida’s coastal ecosystems in their most natural state. The beaches here are backed by salt marshes, dunes, and maritime hammocks that create the most peaceful, restorative environment.
The bird watching opportunities are absolutely extraordinary—over 200 species have been recorded here. I’ve had guests return from this park absolutely glowing from their encounters with wildlife and the deeply peaceful atmosphere. During turtle nesting season, this becomes an even more special destination. Pack your Williams House beach chairs and plan to spend several hours here—the tranquility is truly therapeutic.
Seaside Park: Perfect for Families
When families with children stay at The Williams House, Seaside Park is often their absolute favorite destination. The gentle slope into the water creates ideal swimming conditions for little ones, while the well-maintained boardwalks and pavilions provide comfortable spots for family picnics with the beach towels and chairs we provide.
The playground equipment near the beach means children can alternate between sandcastle building and traditional playground fun, giving parents a chance to truly relax in their beach chairs. The wide, sandy expanse offers plenty of room for family games, and the presence of lifeguards during busy seasons provides that extra peace of mind that helps parents fully unwind.
Peters Point: Our Hidden Treasure
Peters Point remains one of Amelia Island’s most delightful secrets, and I love sharing this gem with guests seeking a more secluded experience. This beautiful stretch offers excellent shelling opportunities and peaceful walks along relatively uncrowded shores—perfect for those contemplative beach moments that make vacations so restorative.
The beach becomes wonderfully wide during low tide, revealing fascinating tidal pools that provide hours of gentle exploration. The minimal development here creates an authentic, old-Florida coastal atmosphere that many of our guests find deeply refreshing after busy city lives.
Burney Park: Easy Access, Beautiful Views
Burney Park provides wonderfully convenient beach access with all the amenities you need for a comfortable day. The accessibility features make it perfect for guests of all mobility levels, while the consistent wave action creates excellent conditions for boogie boarding and body surfing.
This spot serves as an ideal starting point for long, leisurely beach walks in either direction along our island’s gorgeous coastline. Many guests enjoy beginning their beach day here with their Williams House setup, then exploring other areas on foot.
Boneyard Beach: Nature’s Masterpiece
Perhaps the most photographically stunning location near our island, Boneyard Beach on nearby Big Talbot Island showcases nature’s incredible artistry. The weathered tree skeletons scattered along the shoreline create the most dramatic, beautiful landscape you can imagine—absolutely perfect for those vacation photos you’ll treasure forever.
This unique beach, located within Big Talbot Island State Park, demonstrates the ongoing natural processes that shape our barrier islands. The contrast between the stark, beautiful driftwood and pristine sand creates an otherworldly beauty that never fails to inspire our guests.

From The Williams House, you’re perfectly positioned to explore all these wonderful coastal experiences.
