An ornately wrought iron fence topped with gold fleur-de-lis ushers guests into a mansion with a unique gingerbread design.

Guests are greeted by beautiful moldings, massive pocket doors of heart pine and mahogany, and flooring of the same wood. Gorgeous hand-carved mantels surround original tiled fireplaces. Crystal chandeliers, stained glass windows, and handsome furniture allow guests to imagine life as it might have been for its original occupants.

History Runs Deep Here

The Williams House, named a Florida Heritage Landmark Site, is one of the oldest historic homes in Fernandina Beach.

Built in 1856 by a wealthy Boston banker, it is named for Marcellus A. Williams, who purchased the home just two years later. Descendants of the Williams family occupied the home for over 100 years.

The mansion is guarded by its original iron fence, one of the few left standing after the Civil War. The fleur-de-lis detail reflects the French influence in the island’s early history. An intricate gingerbread design on the veranda was designed by Robert Sands Schuyler, a famous New York architect. He made a formal agreement that the striking design would never be duplicated, and it remains unique to this day.
