Smugglers Cove (1812-1813) Patriot Period and Fourth Flag
Smuggling, privateering and the slave trade attracted pirates to Amelia's harbor. The Patriot's overthrew the Spanish and hoisted their own flag. Spain demanded return of the island and built a fort to protect their territory. Pirates' treasure is reported to be buried in Old Town underneath an oak pierced by a hanging chain . However, the tree only appears to those lacking a shovel. $259.00 per night.
